Dallas Gang Unit tracks down suspect nearly two years after a terrifying drive by shooting spree that unleashed almost 300 rounds across three neighborhoods
Dallas, Texas – A months-long investigation by the Dallas Police Department’s Gang Unit has led to the arrest of a man investigators say was responsible for a string of dangerous shootings that rattled several neighborhoods in 2024.
Police announced that 21-year-old Nehemiah Drake was taken into custody on February 11, 2026, in connection with three drive-by shootings and an armed carjacking that occurred nearly two years earlier. The arrest follows an extensive investigation that detectives say tied Drake to a weapon used in the violent incidents.
The case dates back to the evening of June 11, 2024, when Dallas police officers were dispatched to three separate shooting scenes within the span of roughly one hour. The incidents unfolded across different parts of the city — first in the 6800 block of Nandina Drive, then in the 1400 block of McKenzie Street, and finally in the 4200 block of Willow Springs Lane.
At each location, witnesses reported the same alarming pattern. A vehicle would pass through the area and gunfire would erupt from inside it. By the time officers arrived, the suspects had already fled.
Investigators later determined that nearly 300 rounds had been fired during the spree. While no further details were released about injuries, the scale of the gunfire underscored the severity of the threat and prompted Gang Unit detectives to launch an intensive search for the individuals responsible.
Weeks later, another violent crime provided a key break in the investigation.
On June 23, 2024, officers responded to a report of a robbery in progress in the 3300 block of Junction Street. According to police, multiple suspects had stolen a vehicle at gunpoint. The stolen car was later found after it crashed.
Inside the recovered vehicle, officers discovered a pistol that had been modified with a machine gun conversion device — a weapon capable of firing rapidly and with devastating force. Detectives conducted forensic testing on the firearm and ultimately connected it to Drake. Further analysis linked that same weapon to the earlier drive-by shootings on June 11.
Those findings became a crucial piece of the case, allowing investigators to connect the violent episodes and identify a suspect.
Drake now faces multiple charges, including three counts of Deadly Conduct – Discharge Firearm, each classified as a third-degree felony. He is also charged with possession of a Prohibited Weapon, another third-degree felony under Texas law.
Police officials emphasized that the arrest represents the outcome of persistent investigative work that continued long after the shootings first occurred.
Major Andre Taylor, commander of the Dallas Police Department’s Tactical Investigations Division, said the arrest sends a clear message about the department’s determination to pursue violent offenders.
“The safe apprehension of this violent impact offender reflects the Dallas Police Department’s unwavering commitment to public safety,” said Major Andre Taylor. “If you put others in danger, you will be held accountable, no matter how long it takes to find you.”
Authorities say the investigation was driven by the Gang Unit’s continued effort to follow every lead until the suspect responsible for the shootings was located and arrested.
