The Dallas Independent School District (DISD) Board of Trustees recently approved the base school calendars for the 2023-24 and 2024-25 academic years. Prior to the approval, DISD sent surveys to families and staff members to gather input on how the calendar should be structured. An additional survey was distributed in January, asking respondents if they preferred to start school after Tax-Free Weekend. The results of the survey showed that 77% of those polled requested the start date be moved to the Monday after Tax-Free Weekend.
The approved calendars feature a start date after Tax-Free Weekend, a mini fall break for campus team members, and an end date prior to Memorial Day. Both calendars highlight teacher start dates of August 3rd and August 1st for the 2023-24 and 2024-25 school years, respectively. Additionally, student start dates of August 14th in 2023-24 and August 12th in 2024-25.
In 2023-24, the calendar features October 12th-13th as Fall Break and Fair Days, and January 9th as the first day back for students after winter break. The last day for both students and teachers is May 24th, when a half-day student instructional day and a half-day teacher workday are scheduled.
The 2024-25 calendar includes October 10th-11th as Fall Break and Fair Days, and January 7th as the first day back for students after winter break. May 23rd is the last day of school for both students and teachers, with a half-day student instructional day and a half-day teacher workday scheduled.
The DISD Board of Trustees is committed to ensuring the best possible learning environment for its students and staff. By providing families and staff with an opportunity to provide input on the school calendar, the Board of Trustees has created an environment of collaboration and inclusivity. The finalized 2023-24 and 2024-25 base school calendars are now available online.
