Fort Worth area shooting leaves one man dead and another charged with murder after swift arrest
Fort Worth, Texas – A deadly shooting along the Dallas Fort Worth Service Turnpike is now the focus of a homicide investigation after police say one man was killed Tuesday evening and another was quickly taken into custody.
Dallas police said officers were sent to the 4400 block of Dallas Fort Worth Service Turnpike at about 7:30 p.m. on March 31, 2026, after receiving reports of a shooting. When they arrived, the scene had already turned grim.
According to the preliminary investigation, 28-year-old Erick Artea Lerma had been shot. Police say the suspected shooter, identified as 32-year-old Anthony Rios Rivera, left the area before officers reached the scene, adding a brief but urgent layer of uncertainty to an already violent case.
Dallas Fire-Rescue also responded, but there was nothing left to save. Artea Lerma was pronounced dead at the scene, bringing the night to a sudden and devastating close.
Authorities later found Rios Rivera and placed him under arrest. He has been booked into jail and is being charged with murder, according to Dallas police. Investigators have not released additional details about what led up to the shooting, and the case remains active as detectives continue working to piece together the full sequence of events.
For now, the 4400 block of the service turnpike stands as the center of a growing investigation, one marked by a fast-moving police response, an arrest made after the suspect fled, and a loss that now sits at the heart of the case.
The investigation is being documented under case number 045733-2026. Police are asking anyone who may have information to contact Detective R. Kramer, #7967, at 214-671-3608 or by email at [email protected].
Additional information may emerge as investigators continue reviewing evidence and witness accounts.
