McKinney, Texas – McKinney is slated for multiple substantial infrastructure revamps, encompassing intersection enhancements, pedestrian accessibility upgrades, utility relocations, and roadway augmentations. The endeavor includes four significant projects, some in the pipeline and some currently underway, aimed at enhancing the city’s connectivity and transportation network.
The imminent US 380 and Community Avenue intersection refurbishment, a $2.7 million enterprise, is set to offer significant improvements. Jointly financed by the city of McKinney and the North Central Texas Council of Governments, this venture entails broadening the intersection, thereby incorporating dual left-turn lanes for both eastbound and westbound traffic.
Additionally, new westbound and southbound right-turn lanes, along with pertinent traffic signal enhancements, form integral parts of the project. The blueprint is currently under development, with construction set to kick off in late summer, straddling late 2023 till mid-2024.
The second prospective project focuses on bolstering accessibility along Virginia and Louisiana streets between Graves and Benge Street. The $1.9 million endeavor, entirely funded by the city of McKinney, incorporates constructing sidewalks, pedestrian ramps, and crosswalks, thereby aligning the corridor with prevailing accessibility standards.
Construction is projected to commence this summer, extending approximately till the subsequent summer of 2024.
In anticipation of the impending SH 5 overhaul by the Texas Department of Transportation, a $25 million utility relocation project is underway. This project, funded solely by the city of McKinney, necessitates relocating existing city utilities, including water and wastewater, from Spur 399 to Powerhouse Street. Work on this massive undertaking is set to run from late summer through mid-2025.
In terms of ongoing projects, East Louisiana Street is undergoing substantial infrastructure improvements, with a particular emphasis on enhancing its connection to Throckmorton Street.
The $9 million project, jointly funded by the city of McKinney and the North Central Texas Council of Governments, has necessitated the closure of Louisiana Street to through traffic for the construction of a roundabout at Louisiana Street and Greenville Street.
Detour traffic is being redirected to Virginia Street. Additionally, ongoing construction work on Green Street and Andrews Street is slated for street paving by late summer. The total revamp is projected to reach completion in early 2024.
