Statewide achievement spotlights how Fort Worth libraries are expanding access strengthening programs and reshaping the role of public learning in everyday community life

Fort Worth, Texas – The Fort Worth Public Library has been formally recognized by city leaders after earning a statewide honor that highlights excellence in community service and innovation. During a recent work session, the City Council acknowledged the library system’s receipt of the 2025 Achievement of Excellence in Libraries Award, presented by the Texas Municipal Library Directors Association.

The recognition places Fort Worth among a select group of public libraries across Texas that met the organization’s high standards for performance and public impact.

Out of 545 public library systems operating throughout the state, only 101 received this year’s distinction. With the award, the Fort Worth Public Library now stands within the top fifth of libraries in Texas, reflecting sustained efforts to expand access, strengthen programming, and respond to the needs of local residents.

In an official message announcing the honor, TMLDA President Michelle Cervantes praised the library’s clear dedication to outstanding service and its role in improving quality of life within the community. The letter also commended the system for delivering innovative offerings that enrich residents and support learning at every stage.

The Texas Municipal Library Directors Association has recognized exemplary public library service for decades, promoting professional standards and encouraging meaningful engagement between libraries and the communities they serve.

Since its founding in 1966, the organization has emphasized both strong ethical practices and the importance of tailoring programs to local needs. This year’s award recipients, including Fort Worth, were noted for embracing that mission—designing services that reflect how people live, work, and learn in their own neighborhoods.

City officials described the recognition as a reflection of the library system’s continued commitment to accessible knowledge, community connection, and forward-thinking public service.
