Sweeping Dallas federal investigation dismantles cross-border meth trafficking network as leader is sentenced to 40 years in prison

Dallas, Texas – A sweeping federal investigation into drug trafficking across North Texas has culminated in a decades-long prison sentence for a man authorities identified as a central figure in a methamphetamine distribution network tied to sources in Mexico.

Raymundo Bernal Saucedo, 33, a Mexican national unlawfully present in the United States, was sentenced to 40 years in federal prison on March 11, 2026. The sentence, handed down by U.S. District Judge Ada E. Brown, follows his guilty plea in October 2024 to charges of possessing methamphetamine with intent to distribute and aiding and abetting.

Federal prosecutors described Bernal as the leader of a Dallas-Fort Worth-area distribution cell that operated as part of a broader supply chain linked to brokers based in Michoacán, Mexico. His role extended beyond coordination. According to court filings, he was deeply involved in the day-to-day mechanics of the operation, including the processing of liquid methamphetamine into crystal form ready for sale.

The investigation that ultimately dismantled the network began with Homeland Security Task Force agents tracking distribution activity in the region. Authorities arranged a controlled purchase of two kilograms of methamphetamine through a confidential source, a transaction that helped expose the structure of the operation. Surveillance efforts and a subsequent search of a storage unit uncovered a much larger scale of activity than initially apparent.

Agents seized approximately 77 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine during the operation, along with firearms and a ledger documenting transactions. The discovery painted a detailed picture of a system built for volume, precision, and expansion. Prosecutors said members of the group were not only distributing drugs in bulk but were also actively converting raw product into a market-ready form.

Investigators later identified Bernal as the individual overseeing the Arlington-area cell. Evidence presented in court showed that he acquired equipment and materials necessary for methamphetamine production, including containers, chemicals, and other supplies. He also admitted to personally participating in the manufacturing process. Two firearms recovered from his residence were linked to his trafficking activities, further underscoring the scale and organization of the operation.

Wiretaps authorized during the investigation captured communications between Bernal and his associates, providing insight into the network’s coordination and reach. Authorities also uncovered additional criminal conduct, including Bernal’s involvement in smuggling contraband into jail facilities in Tennessee, expanding the scope of the case beyond drug distribution alone.

In total, Bernal was held accountable for nearly 1.95 million kilograms of methamphetamine when calculated under federal drug weight conversion guidelines, reflecting the extensive volume attributed to the conspiracy.

U.S. Attorney Ryan Raybould credited the outcome to coordinated efforts among federal agencies, emphasizing the role of the Homeland Security Task Force in identifying and dismantling transnational drug operations. Law enforcement officials, including representatives from the Drug Enforcement Administration and the FBI’s Dallas field office, echoed that message, pointing to the case as an example of how multi-agency collaboration can disrupt the flow of narcotics into communities.

The prosecution falls under a broader federal initiative aimed at targeting criminal networks that operate across borders. Through joint operations and intelligence-sharing, authorities say they are working to dismantle organizations responsible for drug trafficking, human smuggling, and related crimes.

For investigators, the sentence marks both an end and a continuation—closing one chapter of a complex case while reinforcing an ongoing campaign to identify and prosecute those who orchestrate large-scale drug distribution networks within the United States.
