Texas residents will continue to receive help for water, gas and electricity at least until the end of the year
Dallas, Texas – The State of Texas is extending a vital lifeline to low-income families grappling with the cost of essential utilities. Two key programs aimed at providing financial relief for water, gas, and electricity expenses will continue to accept applications until the end of the year.
LIHWAP and LIHEAP programs were initially planned to last by the end of September
Originally scheduled to conclude on September 30th, the Low-Income Housing Water Assistance Program (LIHWAP) and the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) will now be available until December 29th. Both initiatives offer financial aid to eligible Texas homeowners and renters with low incomes, covering a broad spectrum of utility expenses such as electricity, gas, propane, water, and wastewater fees.
As part of these programs, qualified customers can receive payments to avoid service disconnection, facilitate reconnection, or settle current or future utility bills. Those in need of assistance can apply through the dedicated website texasutilityhelp.com or by contacting the toll-free helpline at 855-566-2057. For residents in Dallas County, inquiries can be directed to 214-819-1848.
The extension of these programs follows a collaboration between Dallas Water Utilities (DWU), the State of Texas, and Dallas County initiated in July 2022. The partnership facilitated the acceptance of applications for assistance schemes created by the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs (TDHCA).
Since its inception, the program has provided substantial support to low-income families, with DWU reporting that more than 2,900 customers have received funding assistance to date. As the utility company continues to process applications, DWU is encouraging residents to establish payment plans as a precautionary measure against the accrual of late fees or the potential disconnection of water services.
Residents interested in exploring payment plan options or seeking further information on these assistance programs are urged to reach out to DWU Customer Service at 214-651-1441. The department is available to assist with inquiries Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Recently, the state of Texas passed bill for tax-free diapers and feminine products.
