Allen teacher organizes special event to support Allen Premium Outlets workers just ahead of the reopening

Allen, Texas – Marking a solemn closure to a traumatic chapter triggered by a horrific shooting incident that claimed eight lives, the Allen Premium Outlets are slated to spring back to life this Wednesday.

In anticipation of this reopening, Katelyn Reed, a dedicated English teacher from Allen High School, has embarked on a poignant mission to cultivate an atmosphere of comfort for the returning workers. Reed, an ardent believer in the profound influence of words, knows well their potential to inspire and console.

Recognizing that the healing power of words could offer solace to the traumatized employees, Reed formulated an empathetic initiative: an “Adopt a Shop” drive. This thoughtful campaign implores the community to assemble personalized gift baskets, each accompanied by a heartening note of support, to be distributed to the outlets’ 120 stores upon their Wednesday reopening.

“I can’t imagine what it must feel like to go back to work after something like that happened so close to you,” she said.

Harnessing the widespread reach of social media, Reed has managed to ensure that almost every store within the shopping complex receives a basket. Each carefully packed bag contains a myriad of comforting items ranging from wholesome granola bars and refreshing sodas to quirky stickers, bearing silent testimony to the community’s resilient spirit in the face of adversity.

“I just tried to think about what would encourage me if I were in their position.”

The shopping center will reopen with a visible security presence, guards 24/7 and Allen Police working out of the substation on the property, according to a spokesperson.

In a statement, they said, “As we reopen, we do so with heavy hearts in remembrance of those who were lost and with care for those who were affected by the tragedy on May 6, 2023. We will continue to pray for the victims, their families and all who loved them.”

Moreover, the valor of the multitude of employees present on that ill-fated day has been recognized with due reverence. They have been hailed as heroes for their resilience amidst such chaos. Reed, sharing this sentiment, envisions her humble gift baskets as symbolic rays of hope piercing the gloom of an otherwise distressing day.

“It’s not going to fix it. It’s not going to undo what happened, but I hope that they feel loved and seen and know that we care about them.”

Simultaneously, the management of the shopping center has initiated steps towards a long-term tribute. It announced plans for a permanent memorial designed to honor the innocent victims of the shooting and serve as a testament to the indomitable spirit of the community. Acknowledging the intricacies involved in such an undertaking, the administration expects the process to span several months.
