DART Paratransit Vehicle Taken for Joyride; Suspect Arrested
A reckless driver who had stolen a DART paratransit van was captured by the Dallas police after crashing into several parked cars and a bicyclist before trying to flee on foot. The person who took the van was reported by DART officials to have taken it from a storage facility at approximately 11:30 p.m. on Sunday night. The driver reportedly headed over near the intersection of Good Latimer Expressway and Central Expressway, where they proceeded to collide with several parked cars along the way, putting many lives at risk due to their erratic driving behavior.
The situation turned from bad to worse when the driver eventually hit a bicyclist, though the rider escaped without injury. After colliding with the cyclist, the thief quickly fled on foot, but their luck soon ran out. Dallas police officers were able to apprehend the individual near Swiss Avenue and Bryan Street shortly after the incident occurred.
Shocking video footage posted on Instagram showed the van being driven in reverse near Bryan Place, carelessly pulverizing several vehicles. The driver, identified on Monday by DART officials as 26-year-old Charles Tisaby, was subsequently taken into custody and is currently being held in the Dallas County Jail on two charges of resisting arrest and unauthorized use of a vehicle. As of this writing, it’s not clear whether Tisaby has obtained an attorney to speak on his behalf or if any bond amounts have been set.
DART Police is leading the ongoing investigation and will be working to secure justice for those impacted by the driver’s reckless behavior. This latest incident once again highlights the dangers of reckless driving and the need for greater vigilance on our roads and highways. It also serves as a reminder that law enforcement is always on the lookout to protect the public from anyone who poses a threat to public safety.
