H-E-B in Dallas and North Texas area: Expected openings, store locations and everything you should know

Dallas, Texas – In an ambitious expansion drive, H-E-B, one of the country’s most extensive privately-owned grocery chains, has marked a frenetic period of activity over the past year within the Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) metropolitan area. The company shows no signs of decelerating this fast-paced growth as it continues to consolidate its presence in the region.

The recent openings have seen locations springing up in Frisco, Plano, McKinney, Allen, and Mansfield, with each establishment contributing to H-E-B’s expanding national retail portfolio. To understand the profound impact of H-E-B’s growth, let’s delve into the specifics of each DFW location.

H-E-B Frisco

Situated at 4800 Main Street, H-E-B’s Frisco store officially commenced business on September 21, 2022. This expansive 11,000 square-foot store is not just a grocery outlet but also hosts a full-service H-E-B Pharmacy with a drive-thru, and the state’s best barbecue chain as rated by Texas Monthly, True Texas BBQ, complete with a drive-thru. This location stays operational from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily.

In addition, a second Frisco location is slated to cater to the growing needs of eastern Denton County. Construction on this store, located at the intersection of HWY 380 and FM 423, began in June following an announcement in May, with completion expected by late 2024.

H-E-B Plano

Meanwhile, the Plano branch of H-E-B opened its doors on November 2, 2022, simultaneously with two sister locations in Houston. This store, at 6001 Preston Road, builds upon the legacy of six Central Market locations that have served DFW shoppers for decades. Like its Frisco counterpart, this location also runs from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. every day.

H-E-B recently also opened an eCommerce fulfillment center in Plano. At the opening, the prominent Texas-based grocery retailer made a $5,000 donation to the Plano ISD Robotics Club.

H-E-B McKinney

Further north of Dallas, on March 3, 2022, H-E-B partnered with McKinney Mayor George Fuller to break ground on a new store situated on the northeast corner of Custer Road and Eldorado Parkway. This McKinney store, set to open on July 19, 2023, represents the third H-E-B project currently under development in the DFW Metroplex.

H-E-B Allen

Moreover, H-E-B initiated construction of another store in Allen on May 25. Slated for a fall 2023 launch, this new location will sit at the northwest corner of Exchange Parkway and State Highway 5 (Greenville Avenue).

H-E-B Mansfield

H-E-B officially began construction on its Mansfield branch in February 2023. Set to cover 118,000 square feet, this store will not only provide a wide range of quality products but also introduce innovative services that H-E-B patrons have grown to appreciate. The Mansfield location is scheduled to open in the spring of 2024.

H-E-B Dallas

Further affirming its dynamic expansion strategy, H-E-B has revealed plans to inaugurate two new locations of Joe V’s Smart Shop by H-E-B in Dallas. Marking a strategic foray outside the Houston area, these will be the first instances of this multi-format retail concept taking root elsewhere.

The first establishment will find its home at 4101 W. Wheatland Road, nestled on the corner of Highway 67. In parallel, the second outlet is being planned at 5204 S. Buckner Blvd., occupying a prominent spot at the corner of Samuell Street. The Wheatland Road store is expected to commence operations in late summer 2024, with the Buckner Blvd. counterpart anticipated to follow in the spring of 2025.

H-E-B Prosper

Meanwhile, the expanding footprint of H-E-B in the Dallas-Fort Worth area continues to spark intrigue. Last summer, reports emerged that the retailer had acquired almost 20 acres of land in Prosper, strategically located on the southeast corner of Dallas North Tollway and Frontier Parkway. However, H-E-B has maintained an air of suspense, not yet divulging the exact plans for this newly acquired site.

H-E-B Celina

In a similar vein, recent reports have indicated H-E-B’s procurement of an approximately 15-acre site in Celina. This parcel of land, situated at the southeast junction of Preston and the forthcoming Outer Loop, further underscores the company’s aggressive expansion strategy. Yet, as with the Prosper site, the company has opted to keep details about the potential project under wraps, with no official timeline or announcement made to date.
