Some schools in Arlington ISD to provide free breakfast and lunches for local children during the summer
Arlington, Texas – In a noteworthy move toward addressing food insecurity, Arlington Independent School District has taken an assertive step by aligning itself with a program designed to avail free meals to local youths throughout the summer period.
In an announcement made on Monday, May 22, the district unveiled its commitment to participate in the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP). Under this scheme, the district will dispense complimentary breakfasts and lunches to an extensive demographic that includes all children under the age of 19 and students with disabilities, who are enrolled in school, up to the age of 21.
Effective from June 5th, select schools within the district will serve as meal distribution sites on weekdays. It’s important to note the scheduling difference: elementary and junior high schools participating in this program are slated to dispense meals until the end of June, while high schools will extend their provision until July 28.
The school district has devised a trio of strategies for those seeking a meal site in their vicinity, a provision that extends even beyond the boundaries of Arlington. An elegant solution to the summer hunger problem, this initiative truly exhibits a mix of strategic planning and genuine concern for the community’s welfare.
