TxDOT launches new awareness campaign for Texas drivers
Dallas, Texas – In a proactive response to the escalating issue of distracted driving, the Texas Department of Transportation has embarked on a comprehensive strategy aimed at safeguarding motorists across the state. This robust initiative comes on the heels of disquieting data illustrating a marked 10% uptick in distracted driving incidents within Texas’ borders.
Launched few days ago, the campaign “Text. Talk. Crash.” constitutes a dynamic, multi-faceted approach designed to alert and educate drivers about the inherent dangers of inattentive driving. Through this concerted effort, the department hopes to instill a stronger sense of responsibility in Texas’ driving populace, urging them to remain vigilant on the state’s myriad roadways.
This freshly-minted campaign represents an augmentation of the broader #EndtheStreakTX drive, an initiative primarily spread through social media channels and organic conversations among the community. #EndtheStreakTX has been a vocal advocate for safer driving behavior, encouraging motorists to take a more conscientious approach behind the wheel, with the end goal of terminating the unbroken sequence of daily fatalities that has unfortunately become a grim reality.
Highlighting the unsettling fact that distracted driving crashes are entirely preventable, TxDOT has underscored its commitment to this cause by providing a suite of pragmatic tips. Aimed at equipping drivers with the knowledge necessary to avoid potentially fatal circumstances, these suggestions have been meticulously curated to serve as a valuable preventive resource.
In this endeavor to enhance road safety, TxDOT invites all Texans to join them in fostering a culture of attentiveness on the roads. By adhering to the fundamental principles of safe driving and actively participating in this campaign, Texans can contribute significantly to the effort to stem the tide of preventable road accidents.
- Always give driving your full attention
- Put your phone away, turn it off or use an app or phone settings to block texts and calls while driving
- Pull off the road entirely and come to a complete stop before using your phone
- Tell friends, family and coworkers you won’t respond to texts or calls while driving
- Avoid eating or drinking until you are parked
“Distracted driving is a choice, and it has devastating consequences for communities.” says TxDOT Executive Director Marc Williams. Texting, adjusting the radio or navigation systems, or scrolling on social media sites can wait until you’re safely parked. We’re urging Texans to make the right choice and put the phone away.”
