Dallas entrepreneur donates $3 million to UNT Frisco to empowering student success

Frisco, Texas – In a magnanimous act reflective of their longstanding commitment to education and community enrichment, Dallas-based business magnate Satish Gupta, the founder, president, and CEO of SB International Inc., along with his wife Yasmin, an alumna of the University of Dallas, have pledged a substantial $3 million endowment to the University of North Texas.

Dallas entrepreneur’s $3 million donation will be used for the creation of a career center on the Frisco campus

This munificent donation will support the creation of a state-of-the-art career center at the university’s newly inaugurated Frisco campus, marking the first endowed gift for the burgeoning Collin County branch campus that commenced its academic operations this year.

The Guptas’ philanthropic endeavors are not confined to this instance alone. As leading figures in the private steel industry, their efforts transcend commercial success. Mr. Gupta, a distinguished economics graduate from India’s Loyola College who further honed his acumen with an MBA in international trade from the University of Dallas, coupled with his wife’s parallel educational background, has consistently prioritized social responsibilities.

The Gupta Agarwal Charitable Foundation has been supporting different initiatives since 2005

The duo established the Gupta Agarwal Charitable Foundation in 2005, a testament to their dedication to supporting education, public health, medical research, and cultural initiatives. This includes Dallas’ annual Diwali Mela festival of lights, as well as substantial donations such as a $12 million gift to the University of Dallas in 2013 for a new business school building and a $5 million contribution to Baylor Scott and White’s heart hospital in Plano in 2019.

“Yasmin and I are honored to contribute to UNT at Frisco’s vision of fostering student success,” Satish Gupta said in a statement. “We believe that education should go beyond classrooms, and we’re proud that the Satish and Yasmin Gupta Career Center will represent our commitment to UNT students and help equip them with the necessary tools and experiences to excel in their chosen fields. … We know that when you believe in yourself, your dreams will come true.”

Responding to the transformative gift, UNT President Neal Smatresk emphasized the substantial impact the career center will have on the Frisco campus’s ability to form pivotal connections between higher education and industry.

“With this visionary support, we can provide even more scholarships, cutting-edge programs and immersive learning opportunities for our students,” Smatresk said as reported by Denton Record Chronicle.

Situated on an expansive 100-acre land parcel, generously donated by the city itself, the Frisco campus stands as a symbol of community collaboration and forward-thinking academic enterprise. A dedication ceremony for the new Satish and Yasmin Gupta Career Center, a facility that epitomizes the entrepreneurial spirit and benevolent ethos of its patrons, is scheduled for Sept. 15, marking a significant milestone in the campus’s development.
