Teenager wanted for last year’s Dallas park shooting found and arrested in Dallas County jail
Dallas, Texas – In a pursuit for justice concerning the tragic events that unfolded in downtown Dallas last October, local authorities announced the arrest of an 18-year-old, Maleek Wright, this past Friday. The incident, which has resounded through the community, transpired in a central park that was formerly considered a sanctuary for urban dwellers.
The arrested suspect was 17 at the time of the incident
At the age of 17 when the incident took place, Wright has now been booked into the Dallas County jail, faced with a charge of murder. A bond was set at $150,000 for the suspect, as court records indicate. The legal process has yet to fully unravel, with still not known whether Wright has secured legal representation.
Officers were called to Main Street Garden, close to the 1900 block of Main Street between St. Paul and Harwood streets, around 11 p.m. on Oct. 8, where they discovered a man suffering from numerous gunshot wounds lying on the ground, as police reported.
38-year-old Dyawn Thomas was the man’s identity, and he was rushed to a hospital only to later succumb to his injuries, according to law Dallas Police Department.
Police investigators stated that they think Thomas and two other individuals engaged in a “verbal altercation” preceding the shooting.
Video of the incident was first made public months after the incident in March
In March, months after the incident, authorities put out surveillance footage from near the location of the crime and called on the public to assist in recognizing several suspects. The video reveals a number of individuals, children included, departing the area after the gunfire.
The potential for additional arrests in this case remains uncertain at this time.
