Swift police response leads to arrest of Dallas man in Mesquite mall shooting over the weekend

Mesquite, Texas – In a disturbing episode on Saturday evening, Town East Mall in Mesquite became the stage for a disturbing incident involving firearms. One individual sustained injuries after an alleged shooting occurred within the confines of the mall’s property.

The shooter was identified as Zettie Minter of Dallas, 39 years old

According to Mesquite police, officers were urgently summoned to the scene at approximately 6:46 p.m., following reports of gunfire. Acting with efficiency, the law enforcement authorities quickly located and apprehended the suspect, identified as 39-year-old Zettie Minter of Dallas.

Upon arrest, Minter was formally charged with two serious offenses: aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The swift action by police was prompted by a series of alarmed 911 callers who reported hearing the unnerving sound of gunfire emanating from the lower level of the mall, specifically in the vicinity of the I-635 entrance. This led officers directly to the whereabouts of the suspect.

One person was shot and injured in the incident

Furthermore, an inquiry into the incident revealed that a single victim had been struck by gunfire. The victim was subsequently transported to a local medical facility, where medical personnel assessed their condition as stable.

Delving deeper into the connections between the suspect and the victim, police determined that the two parties were acquainted with each other. The incident did not materialize out of the blue; rather, it emerged of dispute between the two inside a retail store within the mall. Officers were clear in their assessment that this event did not fit the definition of an active shooter situation, ruling out broader threats to public safety.

For the purpose of a thorough investigation, Mesquite police made the decision to close the I-635 entrance doors of the mall until further notice. This move was specifically geared towards enabling officers to conduct an exhaustive examination of the incident site.

However, the rest of the mall continued to function, undeterred by the incident, reflecting a conscious decision to retain a semblance of normalcy amidst the chaos.
